Stafford Juniors - F.A.Q

To help we have provided a list of frequently asked questions below:

What do we do? - Weekly coaching sessions at Castlefields are interspersed with matches against other clubs, approximately every two weeks. In addition, there are several tournaments each year, where we play against clubs from Staffordshire and further a field.

Which team? - Players join a particular team according to their age at 1st September. For example, someone with their tenth birthday on 24th February would be under ten on the previous September 1st, and so would join the "Under 10s". This is the same as a school year. A team therefore will only have players with up to one year age difference.

The Minis age group ranges from Under 7's through to Under 12's.

The Juniors age group ranges from Under 13's through to Under 17's.

The Girls rugby section cater for school years 7,8 and 9.

When do they play Rugby? - Coaching sessions are on Sundays throughout the season, beginning at 10.15 and ending at approximately midday. Away matches and tournaments normally require an earlier start and possibly a later finish, which is agreed at the time.
The Girls rugby section train on Sundays at 12:30.

Do the Club provide clothing and changing rooms? - The player normally provides his/her own kit. During colder months, it is imperative, especially for the younger players to have several layers of warm clothing. Youngsters’ teeth are extremely vulnerable and the wearing of gum shields is recommended for training but is mandatory for matches. Boots need to have kite marked studs (not nylon). The club sells most of the kit a player needs. Players require a change of clothing to enable them to enter the clubhouse afterwards.

Who Coaches the teams? - Each age group lead coach, has as a minimum, a RFU Level 1 coaching qualification. All members of the coaching team are encouraged to qualify as a RFU coach. Each age group coaching team supervises training and matches. The coach is the key link between the club and the player.

Is their any paperwork to 'fill in'? - New players are encouraged to come to several coaching sessions without any commitment. If he or she then wants to join us properly, the player must register, through the club, with the England Rugby Football Union. This ensures the players and club are insured and are operating within the rules of the RFU. The registration form will also ask for details on any health aspects, which may affect the safety and health of the player during play.

Can we help? - Most coaches and helpers are parents who through watching their children play have decided to help either by becoming part of the coaching team or helping in other ways i.e. administration, transport, kitchen and many other jobs within the club. Parents are encouraged to support their child not only on the touchline!

Can we use the Clubhouse? - A friendly family atmosphere is encouraged and players, families and their friends are very welcome into the clubhouse after training or matches. Hot snacks, meals and beverages of all kinds are sold. Remember members of the Junior section are members of the Senior Club not only the Junior section.

Who runs the club? - Stafford RUFC has the help of many people, although more help is always greatly appreciated, for all sorts of duties. Coaches and members of the Junior section committee would be glad to respond to offers of help or answer any questions you may have.
